Surveyor Reference Manual
This document is intended to serve as an in-depth reference to the
Surveyor terrain visualizer. It does not contain introductory material
for new users. If you are new to Surveyor, you should start with the
document Getting Started with Surveyor.
Overview
The Surveyor Main Window
Whenever you launch Surveyor, you are presented with a main window entitled
``Surveyor.'' This window will show you the name of the surface you are
exploring (defined in your world
file or using the New Surface...
menu), as well as some menus and buttons.
File Menu
The File menu is used to access the different file related functions:
Edit Menu
Buttons
- Explore brings up the Exploration window.
- Animate brings up the Animation window.
- Postcards brings up the Postcards window.
New Surface
The "New Surface..." menu item is used to define a
surface which you want to explore. You must
define the attributes of the surface and specify both elevation and image
data before you can explore.
When you select the "New Surface..." menu item, you are first prompted for a
name for your surface. This name is for your convenience only, and serves as
a reminder in your main surveyor window of the data set on which your are
working. For example, if you were going to work with a Thematic Mapper image
of the Los Angeles area, you could type in "Los Angeles TM."
You are then presented with the "Edit Surface"
window.
